DIY Shower Steamers

Kick your showers up a notch with homemade shower steamers! These will make you feel like you're at a spa, filling your shower with amazing aroma.

Interested in making your own shower steamers? They are super easy to make, and use only a couple household ingredients.

What You'll Need:

  • Mini muffin pan (you can use silicone or a metal one, but if you use metal you'll need to use mini muffin cups so they don't stick to the tray).

  • 1 3/4 cup of baking soda

  • 1/2 cup of cornstarch

  • 4 tablespoons of water

  • Essential oil of your choice

  • Airtight container for storage

To Use:

Once you've created your shower steamer you want to hold it under the water for just a second to get it wet, and then put it at the end of your bathtub away from direct water, and let it fizz and fill your shower with it's amazing scent.

First Step:

Mix the baking soda and the cornstarch together in a bowl and then add the water. Mix it all together and then add your essential oils. *I'd add at least 15-20 drops, but you can add more or less depending on your preferred level of strength. Your mixture shouldn't feel too watery, it should feel like damp sand.

Layering the scent to each individual steamer will allow for a stronger scent. To do this, fill up your mixture half way and add 3 drops of essential oil in the middle of your shower steamer. This step is optional.

Second Step:

Use the rest of your mixture and fill to the top. You can also add another 1-2 drops to the tops of your shower steamers if you'd like.

Leave your shower steamers to dry for 24 hours in the muffin pan.

Third and Final Step:

Carefully take out each steamer and place into your air tight container. These are very fragile, so handle with care or they might break.

*Scent will be the strongest the "fresher" your shower steamers are, so if you're worried about them drying out you can always use two at a time. If you find your scent isn't as strong as you'd like, just add a few more drops of your essential oil on top of your shower steamer before your shower.

Tips & Tricks:

If you feel like you can't smell your steamer anymore, just kick some water on it during your shower and that'll bring out the scent again.

I've tried a few scents now, and my absolute favourite scent is Liquid Sunshine from Saje! It's a strong and citrusy scent, that gives you a energy boost during a morning shower.
